Convincing a Friend, One Sunrise at a Time

Some weekends are planned. Others turn into something much better.

We spent a few days in Sjusjøen, Norway, together with close friends, good food, laughter, and the kind of calm that only the mountains can offer. But as always, I had a small agenda of my own: to catch that perfect morning light.

In what can only be described as a slightly desperate attempt to spark my friend Magnus interest in photography, I lent him some of my gear and convinced him that an early start would be worth it. “Trust me,” I said. “This is when the magic happens.”

And to be fair, the light delivered.

A soft mist hovered over the landscape, slowly revealing layers of trees as the sunrise painted the sky in warm tones. It was one of those quiet moments where everything feels still, almost unreal. The kind photographers live for.

Magnus, however… might not fully agree.

It turns out that while beautiful light is inspiring, a brutally early morning is a tougher sell. Let’s just say his enthusiasm didn’t quite rise with the sun.

But that’s okay.

Because standing there, watching the mist drift across the valley as the world slowly woke up, made it all worth it. And in between enjoying the moment, I managed to capture a few frames that will remind me of it long after the alarm clock pain has faded.

As for Magnus… well, the mission continues.
